Be Safe and Happy Thanksgiving!

The holidays are upon us.  The time for family and friends to come together and celebrate.  While we consider our pets part of our family, they often do not enjoy this time of year.  All of the commotion and chaos can be very confusing and upsetting to our furry friends.  Having all sorts of extra folks in the house can be overwhelming to any animal.  During your gatherings, please make sure that your animals have a safe and quiet place to escape to like the bedroom or their crate.  A special treat or toy, like a frozen kong, may be in order to keep them occupied.  This will also keep them away from any open doors as we don’t need anyone escaping!

In addition, our holiday foods are a danger to our critters.  Many of the holiday fares are very rich and fatty (yum!) which can wreak havoc on a dog’s digestive system while turkey bones and chocolate can be flat out deadly.  It’s a good idea to keep food up on the higher tables and counter tops (even though this will not likely deter those expert counter surfers and those curious kitties).  It’s also helpful to remove the trash from inside to home to avoid any inquiring noses.

Lastly, after all your guests have left and all the dishes are done, it is imperative that you give your pets loves of love, hugs and kisses and remind them how thankful you are to have them in your life!

My dog room

These days pets have become like children in our lives. I know mine are! When I moved into my house I designated one of the spare bedrooms solely to my dogs. Apparently, I had time on my hands  as I created a safe haven for my dogs with crates and cushy beds, toys, pictures and even wall art! I painted them a dog house, bones and paw prints on the ceiling.

I thought I would share some photos in case you want to be inspired to do the same! :) You can share your photos of creative dog ideas on our Facebook. Www.Facebook.com/PeeshsPets

Random News

Since we have the new Peesh's Pets Mobile we've been shopping for the proper accessories to go along with it. We especially like Kurgo Products. Car seat covers do not just come in plain colors anymore. No. They have created fun, unique and trendy patterns to fit every customer's personality.
You can find items like these at www.kurgostore.com

In other news, I wanted to personally share my feelings on having to say "goodbye" to great clients...

I provide a service to all types of families with all types of animals. Peesh's Pets is a pet sitting business that I have built and run in a professional manner but I just can't help but get attached to each furry, feathered or finned client. When the time comes to say "goodbye" to a client, whatever the circumstance may be (families move, vacations end, pets grow up), it's almost like losing a great friend.

Some say that I have to separate myself as this is just a business but how can I completely shut myself off to animals that completely trust, love and want to do right by me? If having no feelings about losing a client is the way to go then I guess that makes my business unique. If you want a pet sitter who genuinely cares for your pets contact us at www.peeshspets.com we always have the best interest of the pets in mind!

I can't express enough how much I adore my Peesh's Pets family. Without them I would not have met such great pets and families and would not have the most amazing job EVER!! Thank you for making my job one of the loves of my life!

Even when we are not working

Even when we are "off the clock" animals flock to us! As I babysit for friends of mine, their 3 cats and dog keep me company. Here is Scout sleeping on my shoulder! I had to watch the Red Sox game in the reflection of the window to not disturb the sleeping beauty. Peesh's Pets is always happy to be in the company of all animals :)

It's the little things...

I am always amazed by the number of "Thank You's" I get for dog walking and/or pet sitting my client's pets. The little things like the gift of cupcakes for working a visit on my day off is so heartwarming! The generosity on a daily basis makes me smile. Not only do I have the best job in he world I have the best customers in the world!

New Logo!

We are extremely proud and excited to unveil our NEW Peesh's Pets logo! Especially designed for us, this logo incorporates my personal dogs, dogs I've owned as a child and the fabulous artist's dog (who created this logo.) We couldn't be more thrilled to share this with you as our pet sitting journey has taken us on this successful path. We wouldn't be where we are today without our dedicated customers and our furry family.

About the logo designer: Sally Bratt is a good friend of ours. Her talents are priceless, extraordinary, one in a million...no, one in a trillion! Not only does she have a fantastic hand for art, illustration, and graphic design she is one of the best cake designers and sculpters around. Sally has also been featured on the Food Network Channel. Amazing! Please check her out! Her business' are House of The Rising Cake and Creative Mouse Illustration.

Thank you, Sally!

We will just say this....this logo is only the beginning of many great things for our business' future. Stay tuned.....:)

New Friends

We love adding new furry friends to our crew! It's especially nice to get a puppy client every once in a while. You know why? I get to visit, play and be goofy with him/her as if they were my own. I get my "puppy fix" in without actually having to own one. My job is fantastic!! Im like the cool auntie who comes to spoil them on a regular basis. Yes, yes I have to enforce rules and training sometimes but there is never a time when a dog is unhappy to see me! Not bragging...just sayin...:)

In other news...my new logo is here! Stay tuned for the reveal!!

Heat Wave

With temps in the high 90's this week Peesh's Pets is advising pet owners to keep your furry friends inside. This extreme heat can easily cause blistered paws and dehydration.

We have been keeping the fun and playtime indoors (with A/C!) during our visits! It is our goal to keep our clients safe, happy and healthy!!

*PLEASE* if you see an animal in distress call the police immediately! Animals left inside a hot vehicle need help as temperatures almost double without air conditioning. Any four legged loves that do not have adequate shelter and water also need prompt police action.

Just imagine being left outside with a winter jacket on this week....that's how our pets feel. Too hot!!...so stay cool :)

Happy 4th of July!

We hope everyone has a Happy and safe 4th!

We'd like to remind pet owners that fireworks can be loud and scary for our furry friends. Be sure to accommodate to your pets needs during this holiday!

Tips for a safe Paw-liday....
1.) Keep pets leashed. Loud noises can make them run for cover!

2.) Put on a radio or TV to drown out any background noises. "Through A Dog's Ear" is especially made to calm or soothe an anxious pet. In addition, a Thundershirt can also calm pet's noise apprehension.

3.) Over the counter medication and supplements, such as Melatonin or Benadryl, can be useful in curbing a pet's anxiety to loud noises. Always consult your vet when using any medication or supplements.

4.) If having a party, use precaution as doors and windows may be opening often with the comings and goings of guests. We don't want our 4 legged loves to slip out a door or break through any screens.

5.) Keep your cool and hydrated! Leave out plenty of water, turn on fans and air conditioners, and keep sensitive paws off hot asphalt. Make pupcicles! Freeze dog treats and toys in water for a cool summertime fun!! It will keep them entertained and hydrated!

Thank you for your business! We're always happy to care for your pets!!

School is out

Saying "see you later" is one of the hardest things to do in my job. When summer comes Peesh's Pets lose some clients, like Otis here, as owners take the summer off. Yay! For them but sad for us. We become so accustomed to our daily routines and get attached to our clients. That's how I know I love my job and my clients! :)
This week one of my customers said, "you forgot to take your check today." My reply, "I guess this just proves I'm not in it for the money!" You want a great professional pet sitter to care, love and respect your pets? Look no further...Contact us!

Duck, duck...GOOSE!

No, I do not take care of these geese but they do seem to wait for me so they can safely cross the road. For the past week and a half 3 sets of mama and daddy geese with their babies have crossed the road in front of my car. Maybe they know the pet sitter will stop for them? :) I've traveled this road to pet sit in Weare, NH at different times during the week. Everyday they cross. Last Tuesday they were trying to get their babies to jump in the pond. So cute! These little acts of nature make me thankful I work in beautiful New Hampshire!!

Playtime with Peesh

Today I got the pleasure of pet sitting for my clients Luke (yellow lab) and his nephew Coal (black lab). These two are not from the same litter or breeder but they sure do act like it! They chase each other, wrestle, play like they've known each other from before birth. Dog/animal behavior has always fascinated me. I could sit and watch animals interact all day. These two are the perfect specimens!

Professional Pet Sitter

Animals, just like humans, get sick. It was my duty to bring my client, Diego, to the emergency vet while in my care. He had developed a lump on his hip that grew 3x its size in 3 days. I spoke with his owner and we made the decision to bring him in as he would not eat or walk up and down the stairs. While at the vet, the doctor gave us horrible news. Diego had a sarcoma which is a cancer that cannot be treated. I then had to relay this devastating news to his mom.

I brought this sweet boy home to rest and administered medication that the doctor said would make him comfortable. I waited with him overnight until his mom arrived at 5am the next morning. She immediately knew that something was wrong as I was not scheduled to stay overnight. I smiled and gave her the good news first - his blood test came back normal and he could handle the prescribed medications. Then came the part I was dreading. I explained everything in detail making sure to leave nothing out. I'm not sure how much she heard after the shock of hearing the word "cancer."
I hugged my client and apologized for being the bearer of bad news. In turn, she apologized for my having to deal with this situation. I wanted to take him even if it meant bad news. Diego was suffering and I couldn't let that go on in my care.

I'll never forget that night. Someone said to me, "that's the difference of being a professional pet sitter. You are the caretaker and a shoulder to lean on." I really do love all my clients as if they were my own. I wouldn't trade any job for this one even during the hard times.

Spring is coming...I hope!

I love living in New England. The change of seasons is always refreshing BUT I'm ready for spring!! The warmer weather allows for longer walks or outside playtime without wet paws and snowballs hanging off fur. One of the best things about animals is that they hardly care what the weather is like (OK, they would probably do without the rain) or what I look like in it, even if I do look like the abominable snowman walking down the street with them. :) The sun just makes everyone in a better mood. So where is it?? Let's go Mother Nature...the dog walkers of NE need the snow to melt and warmer days ahead! Ready, set, GO!

L.o.v.e

I love my clients! It's so funny that just like humans animals can have such different personalities too. Take Heidi for example. She is 120lbs of pure Saint Bernard. Although Heidi's body may be massive she is one big softy! Afraid of her own shadow, barks at strangers wagging her tail then runs away and stears clear of cats. On the other hand, she thinks she's the boss of the family! With her two legged family members she is the queen bee. There should be one in every household! :)

Winter wonderland

Although people complain about snow...traveling, walking, shoveling, it's so very pretty and peaceful in the morning. Lilly and I agree :) great walk with great company! We stopped along the way to chase snowballs and jump in and out of the snow banks. Such an amazingly fun girl!

Where's Waldo

Ok so my dog's name is Roxy not waldo but can you find her? :) she loves the snow and jumped right in! *note the snow is almost up to my waist* We've gotten 24+ inches here in Goffstown. Been snow blowing for 2 hours now and it's still comin down. It's a snow day for Peesh's Pets although it'd be awfully cute to see all my clients in the snow!

Welcome to the Family!

Meet Atticus! This 5 yr old lab mix is quite shy at first but with lots of treats, reassurance and TLC he is a great Peesh's Pets client. Atticus' brother, Sirus (missing from photo), is also a big love. He is a double pawed Siamese with tan/brown/black coloring who loves attention....on his own terms :) Sirus follows Atticus where ever he goes but knows his place when there are dog bones involved! Welcome to our family, boys!

Peesh's Pets Mobile

Woke up to the Peesh's pets mobile having a flat tire! Apparently I can't hit potholes going 40 miles an hour. Whoops!

Saturday, January 26, 2013

"Tucker"-ed out

This is Tucker after we played in the snow! He's such a great dog with a gentle demeanor. He even let's his 120 lb st Bernard sister grab his ears and push him out of the way.....we're working on not doing that anymore ;)

"Musher's Secret"

I've noticed that my dog clients paws are really sensitive to the cold, pads are cracking, and de-icing salt is stinging. This product was recommended by a great friend of mine and she swears by it! It's called Musher's Secret. It's a wax that you put on the pads of dog paws which keeps them from soaking in salts and cold snow. You can find it online or at a Tractor Supply store near you. Visit musherssecret.net for more information!

Hello!

This is my first blog! I'm excited to share my personal dog walking and pet sitting experiences with you. For those of you who are wondering...My business is named after my nickname, "Peesh." Piche' (pea-shay) *note the accent, eh* ;) is my last name which is never pronounced correctly! So, everyone calls me Peesh.

I have and had amazing clients. The animals I care for really become a part of my family. Every visit is a treat with lots of fun and care! I know that I am doing my job to the best of my ability when all of the animals I care for are happy each and every visit. Creating this business is the best thing I've ever done!
